Halloween is one of the most fun times of the year for kids. They get to dress up in costumes, collect candy, and spend time with their friends. However, the holiday can also be dangerous if proper safety precautions aren’t taken. To avoid unnecessary trips to the medical clinic, follow these Halloween safety tips.

Wear Bright Costumes

When purchasing or making your child’s costume, make sure that it’s brightly colored. It may be dark outside, so ensure drivers in vehicles can see your child crossing the street. Also, consider adding reflective tape to your child’s costume to make it even more visible.

Avoid Masks

Many kids love to wear scary masks on Halloween. Unfortunately, these masks can make it more difficult for them to see, increasing the risk of falls, and the last thing you want to do is take your little one to a medical clinic on Halloween night. Apply non-toxic makeup to your child’s face instead.

Accompany Young Trick-or-treaters

Always accompany children when trick or treating to ensure they stay safe. If you are unable to accompany them, make sure another trusted adult takes them.

Inspect the Treats

Before you let your child eat any candy, inspect it thoroughly. If any of the candy isn’t sealed properly or has torn packaging, throw it out. You don’t want your child to get sick and have to go to the medical clinic on Halloween. Give your child a light meal before heading out so he or she isn’t tempted to eat the candy as they collect it.

Unfortunately their are evil people in this world,  avoid products that allow for tampering is suggested.  Pre-packaged products are safer.  Giving more nutritious snacks such as granola bars, crackers and cheese or peanut butter, single serving fruit or vegetables in factory sealed containers is highly encouraged.

The staff at Patients first medical clinic offer Free X-ray of Halloween candy to avoid metal foreign bodies from being placed in snacks.

Last teach your children not to over indulge in the snacks they receive.  Learning to share is an excellent moto during this time of great expectation.  Avoid eating too many candies at once to keep your good health.  Hydration can help counteract the effects of candy.
