Allow me to introduce Heather, and if you haven’t met her yet you definitely need to make it to class at 10:30am and say hi, if she doesn’t say hi first.  Heather is a bright burst of colorful energy each day.  Her enthusiasm is as infectious as her trademark, “OH-Boy!” before each workout.  Heather is a joy to be around and brightens each class.  Read below to find out more about Heather.

How did you hear about CrossFit and what was your first experience?  This is actually a funny story... we just arrived at Ft. Leavenworth KS in 2013 after my husband had been deployed for 13 months. He was going to school and super busy.  I had always worked out, but never tried Crossfit.  I remember telling my friends in VA that I wasn't interested in CF because I didn't want to get "bulky"lol.  I always did bootcamp style workouts.  So, the first thing I do when we go to a new base is find a new gym to find friends and workout buddies with the same interests. I was looking around on base to see what they had.  There was a class that was called "Results" at the Bubble (a giant Army tent).  It said it was Functional Fitness, which is what I thought was what I normally did. I was used to Bootcamp style workouts. I remember walking into the Bubble for the 9:30 class and was like "Oh shit, where am I".  There was 2 big rigs, weights and bars, your typical CF box.  I couldn't back out at this point, I was already there!!!!  I was nervous, but the first workout I did was 150 burpees for time. I thought, "omg, I got this, it'll be so easy!"  Ummmm, as you know, you need some sort of plan to get through that.  I just went all out and then thought I was going to die!!!! But, I didn't and after that have been hooked ever since.

When did you first come to Bombers CrossFit?   I first came to Bombers in June of 2016, so almost 2 years now!

How many days do you CrossFit? I always try to come 4 days a week, sometimes 5 if I can get some of my girls to come on Saturday

What classes do you normally take?  Unless I have something going on in the morning 10:30 is my class.  I love everyone at Bombers, but have become super close to my 10:30 girls.  We are a bunch of around-the-same-age girls with common interests and goals.

What motivates you/keeps you coming back to Bombers CrossFit? Honestly, the people. I love how everyone is so motivating and care about how you are doing as much as themselves.  Another thing is the coaching, all the coaches are the bomb and super helpful and encouraging.  I remember when I was in VA I went to a seminar with a pretty well known nutrition/CF gal.  One thing that really stuck with me was she said that sometimes when you get hurt and are out for awhile you will see that your "gym" friends will not stick around.  That has never been true for me.  Since doing CF I have been in and out with numerous skin cancer surgeries, sometimes weeks at a time.  My friends are still my friends and besides my awesome hubby, my biggest supporters. She may have had a bad experience at a gym, but all the ones I have been to I have made friends for life.

What’s your favorite thing about the Dayton area? My favorite thing about the Dayton area..hmmm...probably that we (hopefully!!) won't have to move anymore! As much as I would like to retire somewhere warm and tropical, Dayton is where we are staying. We are Trying to provide some stability with the kiddos while they are in school.  The other thing is Bombers of course :)

What accomplishment are you the proudest of (inside and outside of the gym)? Well, inside the gym I would say giving myself a break and being proud of what I can do.  It's taken me a few years not to be so hard on myself.  There will always be someone better and younger lol that can do more and lift more.  I am happy and grateful that I can workout and Pr what I can and learn to do new things. Outside of the gym I am proud that I have been able to keep my family together and happy through all the moves and deployments we have been through.

After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?  I don't know if it's my fav, but I always try and have a protein shake after I workout.

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit?  I love hanging out with my kids, my doggies and my husband. I also love to read and do hot yoga( yes, that's a new one for me lol)

What is one goal within the gym that you’re working on?  I'm always working on m something, but ...I would say to keep pushing myself to do pull ups and not being scared of snatches.

What impact has CrossFit had on your life/lifestyle/level of fitness?  Crossfit has had a huge impact on me for sure.  I love how everyone is so welcoming when you are new to a new box, which I have been to a lot!  I've learned that when you eat and sleep well, that it has a big impact on "gainz".  Also, I have met so many wonderful friends everywhere I've been that I still keep in contact with.

What advice would you give to a newbie?  Don't be scared!!!!!!  Crossfit seems so intimidating when you're new!!  I love how CF is for everyone.  It dosen't matter how young or old you are or what kind of shape. Everything can be scaled and us crossfitters are really nice and welcoming :)
