During winter and early spring, all businesses need a fully functional heating system to keep employee productivity and customer satisfaction high. However, this system requires both regular maintenance and vigilance to perform properly. If your building uses a commercial boiler to provide heat, keep an eye out for the following.

Typical Problems with Commercial Boilers

1. Lack of Heating

Several factors could cause a boiler to produce little or no heat, including dirty burners or pressure issues. To find the source of the problem, try cleaning the burners first. If that doesn’t help, have a contractor come and inspect the unit. If the pressure is too low, it may be a sign your boiler needs leak repair.

2. Leaking Water

Like poor heating, leaking water has a variety of causes. However, the culprits are often corroded components or problems with the pressure relief valve. These are both major issues that should only be dealt with by a professional. Scheduling regular maintenance is the best way to prevent leaks; with regular check-ins, a contractor can spot issues early on and remedy them.

heating3. Cold Spots

If most rooms are getting heat but certain areas are chillier than others, it’s probably a zone control issue. Carpeting, tile, and insulation can all affect how well heat circulates. Unless all the rooms in the house are identical, the settings will need to be adjusted to ensure the heat moves efficiently throughout the space.

4. Strange Sounds

Gurgling or banging is usually due to low water pressure or pump failure, while whistling is often caused by mineral deposits. Either way, it’s best to make an appointment with a heating contractor. They can repair the leak or replace the pump if needed. If there are excessive mineral deposits, they can flush out and clean the system.

5. Intermittent Power

If the power keeps switching on and off, the thermostat or pump may be faulty. Fixing this could be as simple as getting a replacement for either or both of these parts. A contractor can determine the quickest solution.
