If you're a rideshare driver, you've likely put plenty of extra miles on your automobile. Routine maintenance can ensure your vehicle performs smoothly and prevents mechanical issues that could require car repairs. However, due to increased mileage and wear and tear, you might need certain auto checkups and upkeep services more frequently. Below, you'll find a helpful maintenance schedule for rideshare drivers.

An Auto Maintenance Schedule for Rideshare Drivers

1. Weekly Tire & Light Checks

Since tires may lose air more rapidly as a result of making frequent trips, check the pressure once weekly. This can keep you from driving on under-inflated tires and will reduce the risk of blowouts. Attach a gauge to each valve stem, and note the psi. Compare this reading to the manufacturer-recommended psi in your owner's manual or on the side panel of the driver's side door, and add air as necessary.

You should also check your headlights and taillights once per week to make sure they illuminate properly. You can do this by turning on the ignition, leaving your vehicle in park, and turning on the lights before exiting the car and walking around it. In addition to making sure you can see the road clearly at night, which can prevent accidents and collisions, functioning lights can help you avoid getting pulled over and receiving a ticket.

2. Oil Change Every Three Months

Motor oil slides through the engine block to prevent internal components from rubbing together and generating heat from friction, which can lead to breakdowns. Since you've likely put more mileage on your rideshare vehicle than an average car, you might need more frequent oil changes. An auto technician should check your vehicle's oil every three months and change it when it starts running low to avoid more extensive car repairs later.

3. Biannual Brake Inspections

Your car's brake system involves pads, rotors, and calipers that clamp together to provide resistance that brings the wheels to a halt. Since these components rub together and generate heat from friction, they gradually deteriorate and eventually require replacing. You might use your brakes more often as a result of frequent stops while completing rideshare trips in the city, meaning a brake service technician should check them twice annually. They can inspect for worn pads and note any deterioration of the calipers and rotors, replacing these parts as necessary. Additionally, they can check the brake fluid and add more when the level gets too low.
