Training to become a certified nurse assistant will open doors to a dynamic, in-demand career that is fulfilling and rewarding on both professional and personal levels. To get your certification, you will need to take CNA classes, which provide comprehensive insight into the benefits of this career. To help you better manage your CNA training, below are some do’s and don'ts to remember when taking classes.

Do:

Plan your schedule ahead of time.

Many students taking CNA classes do so while working and tending to their families. Because of the time commitment your CNA training will involve, be sure to plan your schedule ahead of time. Using the calendar feature on your phone, or just an old-fashioned daily planner, map out the week ahead of you. Schedule tasks that need to be accomplished, allow sufficient transit time to and from class, and identify activities that may need to be rescheduled or held off until after your training.

Have a quiet place to study.

CNA classesCNA classes can be rigorous for some people. You want to have a quiet, solitary space to study, where there will be minimum disruptions. Talk to your spouse and kids in advance to let them know that for a certain time each evening, you need to be left alone in the bedroom to study. If there is no quiet space at home, consider going to your public library.

Don't:

Be ill-prepared.

CNA classes are a commitment. This is serious vocational training that will give you an opportunity for an exciting, new career. Come to class prepared to learn. Have all the necessary books and supplies, take the time to study every day, and never hesitate to ask questions.

Try to do it all.

Most CNA students are juggling a lot of responsibilities. Resist the urge to try to tackle them all on your own. If you need help, ask friends and family members to help. If you need a babysitter, or a ride to classes or the library, or just someone to vent to, reach out to those you trust.
